Rockstar Games will release Grand Theft Auto VI on 19 November, with pre-orders opening 25 June, the publisher confirmed. The title launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, marking the first mainline GTA entry in more than a decade [1]. The game is set in Leonida, a fictional US state based on Florida, and features the return of Vice City, a Miami-inspired metropolis [1][2]. Players will control Lucia, the franchise's first playable female protagonist in a 3D setting, and her partner Jason in a story that follows a criminal duo after a heist unravels [1][2]. Rockstar formally revealed the project in December 2023 after years of speculation and a major leak in September 2022 that journalists called one of the largest in industry history [2]. The 19 November date follows two prior delays. Rockstar originally targeted autumn 2025, then May 2026, before settling on the current window. The studio said it needed additional months to deliver the level of polish fans "expect and deserve" [1]. Parent company Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games, 2K, and Zynga, had an estimated market capitalization of US$41 billion as of April 2025 [8]. Pricing remains unannounced, though some analysts have estimated the title could be the first to reach $100, or roughly £76 [1]. The game will be available for digital pre-order and at select retailers on 25 June [1]. No PC version has been confirmed, and availability on Nintendo Switch 2 is unknown [1]. The franchise's commercial weight is considerable. Grand Theft Auto V, released in September 2013, has sold more than 220 million copies, making it the second-best-selling video game of all time [6]. Rockstar's previous major release, Red Dead Redemption 2, launched in October 2018 and generated US$725 million in sales during its opening weekend, exceeding the lifetime sales of its predecessor within eight days [3]. That title has since shipped over 85 million copies [3]. Freelance journalist Vic Hood noted the series' cultural reach. "Rockstar has always had its finger on the pulse of music, entertainment, societal, political, celebrity, and online culture trends, and they've never shied away from satirising these things in GTA games," she said [1]. The two gameplay trailers released so far have drawn roughly 447 million combined views [1].
