Midjourney, known for its AI image generator, has unveiled a full-body ultrasound scanner that captures detailed 3D images of the body's composition in about 60 seconds[1].
The Midjourney Scanner uses a ring of sensors to capture vertical slices of the inside of the body, analyzing muscle, fat, bone, and organs. Midjourney CEO David Holz demonstrated the device, stating it aims for image quality comparable to MRI. The company has scanned about a dozen people so far[1]. The scanning process involves stepping into a shallow pool of water and descending through a ring of underwater sensors that send ultrasonic sound waves through the body. Midjourney plans to open a spa in San Francisco's Union Square with 10 scanners before the end of 2027, which will also feature a gym, saunas, and cold plunges[1]. The spa's scanning rooms will be equipped with hot tubs. Midjourney developed the scanner in partnership with Butterfly Network, which provided 40 Ultrasound-on-Chip imaging modules per system[2].
