Salesforce will acquire AI customer service platform Fin for $3.6 billion, the company announced Monday, folding the San Francisco-based firm's agent technology into its Agentforce enterprise platform [1]. Fin, formerly known as Intercom, builds an AI agent that resolves customer queries across live chat, WhatsApp, SMS, phone calls, and Slack [1]. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and maintains offices in Chicago, Dublin, Sydney, and London [2]. Salesforce said the deal is expected to close in the final quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, which falls in early calendar 2027 due to the company's reporting calendar [1]. "Fin brings proven agent technology, a deep commitment to customer success, and an incredible AI team that will complement Agentforce with powerful service agent capabilities," Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said in a statement [1]. Fin co-founder and CEO Eoghan McCabe told customers in a post on X that the company had been "shipping intensely" and cited its model Apex and internal agent Operator as recent milestones [1]. "With the resources of Salesforce this will only accelerate. And yet little will practically change. I'll still be CEO, Des will still be running R&D, we'll both still be committed to continuing to lead this category," McCabe wrote [1]. The acquisition adds to a wave of consolidation around AI-powered customer service tools. Klaviyo, a Boston-based SaaS firm, offers an omnichannel CRM platform with agentic AI features used by roughly 196,000 merchants, many of them e-commerce sellers on Shopify and WooCommerce [6]. The broader market for AI-driven business software has drawn heavy investment, with privately held startups crossing the $1 billion valuation threshold earning the "unicorn" designation tracked by outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, and CB Insights [3]. Salesforce, whose name crowns the tallest building in San Francisco at 1,070 feet, has made a series of acquisitions to extend its cloud software portfolio [5]. The Fin deal is among the larger transactions in the customer service AI segment and signals continued appetite for technology that automates enterprise support workflows.
