South Korea plans to train entire military as "drone warriors"

The two countries remain technically at war: the 1950–1953 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty, and the Demilitarized Zone has divided the peninsula ever since [9]. Ukraine’s use of drones and military robots as force multipliers against Russia’s larger army carries particular resonance for Seoul, which faces a similar asymmetry across the DMZ [1]. North Korea has meanwhile built its own asymmetric arsenal. It is estimated to possess roughly 60 nuclear warheads and produces fissile material for six to seven additional warheads annually [7]. The Korean People’s Army Strategic Force operates over 363 ballistic missiles, including 17 intercontinental-range systems such as the Hwasong-17, and is developing submarine-launched ballistic missiles [7]. North Korea is also widely assessed to hold a chemical weapons stockpile of up to 5,000 tons, including sarin and mustard gas [7]. South Korea’s drone push is not occurring in isolation.
