Google has released its new smart speaker, the Google Home Speaker, powered by the Gemini assistant. The device is available for preorder starting June 17 and will be officially available on June 25[1].
The Google Home Speaker is Google's first new smart home speaker in almost six years, featuring a redesigned compact orb design with a glowing ring of lights at the base that indicates when it's listening or processing a request[2]. The speaker comes in four colors: Berry, Jade, Hazel, and Porcelain, with the first two colors exclusive to the US market. According to Wired[1], the device is powered by Gemini, Google's advanced AI assistant, which offers improved natural conversation understanding and can handle complex queries. Ars Technica[2] reported that the speaker costs $100, although Wired[1] noted that the price is $100, while Ars Technica stated it as $99.99. The speaker features 360-degree audio, capacitive touch controls, and three far-field microphones, with a hardware mute switch to control listening. Google's chief product officer, Anish Kattukaran, said the speaker runs local AI models for better sound isolation and has a driver that's twice as large as the previous Nest Mini, with more powerful bass[1].
